Section 1

Getting started

A short guide for players who don't read Turkish. The app itself is fully available in English: tap EN at the top right of the sign-in screen.

Create your account

  1. On the sign-in screen, tap Create an account. Everyone fills in the same form, whether or not you have a Turkish phone number.
  2. Enter your first name, last name, email and a password (at least 6 characters; tap Show to see it). Choose your gender and type your date of birth as day / month / year; we ask for these for tournament categories and prizes. Your EGD PIN is optional.
  3. Tick the consent box and tap Create account. Your account opens right away. Just want to look around first? On the sign-in screen, tap Look around without an account.
Just installed the app? On its very first launch a freshly installed app may still run the previous version; the update downloads in the background and takes effect the next time the app opens. Before you sign up, open the app once with internet on, wait a few seconds, then close it completely (swipe it away from recent apps) and open it again. If you only see an “Account Pending Approval” screen with a single Log Out button, do the same: close the app completely and reopen it. Your account is kept; you don't need to log out.

Verify your account (once)

Tournament sign-up, result entry and chat open after a one-time verification. News, the calendar and rankings are open to everyone.

  1. Turkish (+90) mobile number: choose Verify with my Turkish (+90) number, tap Send code, type the 6-digit code you receive and tap Verify. The message may not show “TGOD” as the sender. No code? In the No code? box choose At a tournament? Show the referee or Ask the TGOD team for help.
  2. No Turkish number: choose I don't have a Turkish number. At a tournament, show the QR code on the I'm at a tournament card to the referee; once it's scanned, your account opens right away (the same code is under Profile › Digital ID). Not at a tournament? On the I'm not at a tournament card, confirm your email (tap the link we send, then come back and tap I tapped the link; check your spam folder or tap Resend), choose your country and reason, add a note if you like and tap Send for approval. You'll get a notification when it's approved.
  3. While you wait you can use the app freely; only the member features stay locked. If you can't enter your game result yet, tell the referee.
Accounts that aren't verified within 7 days are paused, not deleted. They reopen as soon as you verify. While an approval request is pending, your account is not paused.

Something went wrong?

  • Mistyped your email: tap Wrong address? Fix it on the home screen banner and enter the right one. The change completes when you tap the link sent to the new address.
  • Forgot your password: tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen, then Send link.
  • Request not approved: if you think it's a mistake, write to baskan@tgod.org.tr. Your account is not deleted.
Section 2

Account and verification

How do I create an account?

On the sign-in screen, tap “Create an account”. Enter your first and last name, email, a password, gender and date of birth; add your EGD PIN if you have one. Your account opens right away. Then you verify it once: by SMS code if you have a Turkish (+90) number, otherwise by showing your code to the referee at the venue or asking the TGOD team for approval. You can look around until then; tournament sign-up, results and chat open once you're verified.

How do I verify my phone?

Tap the “Verify your phone” banner on the home screen. Enter your Turkish (+90) mobile number, tap “Send code” and enter the 6-digit code. The message may not show “TGOD” as sender; on most Android phones the code fills in by itself. If no code arrives, you can ask again after 60 seconds. Still nothing? At a tournament, show your code to the referee, or tap “Ask the TGOD team for help”.

I don't have a Turkish number. What now?

On the verification screen choose “I don't have a Turkish number”. At a tournament, show the code on the screen to the referee; once scanned, your account opens right away. Not at a tournament? Confirm your email, enter your country and why you're here, and tap “Send for approval”. You'll get a notification when the TGOD team approves. You can look around while you wait.

What is the 7-day rule?

An account that isn't verified within 7 days of opening is paused. Nothing is deleted and your details stay; it reopens as soon as you verify. You get reminders on days 3 and 6. While your approval request is pending, the clock doesn't run.

I typed my email wrong. What now?

In the email banner on the home screen, tap “Wrong address? Fix it” and enter your correct address. A link is sent to the new address; when you tap it, your address changes and from then on you sign in with the new one. If you can't get into your account at all, write to baskan@tgod.org.tr.

What can I do as a guest?

Without an account you can read news, see the event calendar and the club map, and open tournament and event pages: a tournament's Overview tab (schedule, rules, number of participants) and Matches tab (pairings and results) are open to you. Participants' names and the Standings tab appear once you create an account and verify it. Signing up for a tournament, following it, chatting and earning points need a free account; association membership is not required. The Create an account to register button on the tournament page and locked features open a window where Create an account takes you straight to the sign-up screen.

Section 3

Tournament day

How do I register for a tournament?

Open the tournament from the Calendar tab in the bottom menu or from the Home screen, tap Register Now and fill in the form. You can follow your registration in the For you card on the same page. If the tournament requires an EGD licence, the form shows the fee and a notice. Registering requires an account that has been verified once.

What are the round attendance check and IN/OUT for?

In the round list on the tournament page you can set IN or OUT for each round. If the referee opens an attendance check before a round, you are asked whether you will play it; answer before the deadline. If you choose OUT or No, I won't play before pairing, you won't be paired for that round. If you'll be late, tell the referee as well.

How do I report my game result?

Open the Matches tab on the tournament page, find your table and enter the result; either player can do it. It becomes final once your opponent confirms. If you disagree, dispute it or call the referee, who decides. If there is a kiosk tablet at the venue, you can enter the result there too. No need to wait for the operator.

How do I follow a tournament (spectator mode)?

Tap Follow in the For you card on the tournament page’s Overview tab (the eye icon in the top bar does the same). You are notified when each round is paired and when all results of a round are final and the standings update; the Matches and Standings tabs are open to you too. Following requires an account verified once: by SMS with a Turkish number, or by referee or TGOD team approval if you don't have one.

What is the QR code on my profile for?

The code on your profile is for identity and membership checks and for in-person verification. If your account isn't verified yet, show it to the referee at the venue; once they scan it and tap Verified in person, your account opens right away. For tournament check-in and the kiosk, use the Participation QR Code on the tournament page instead.

What is an EGD licence, and who needs one?

The EGD licence is the European Go Federation's (EGF) yearly player licence. It is needed only in EGD tournaments that require a licence, and only for players with a GoR of 800 or more (the licence threshold); beginners and players below the threshold play without one. The licence fee is separate from association dues: the EGD Licence card in your Profile shows the fee and payment details, and you upload your receipt there.

Section 4

Points and the Go Dojo

What are Activity Points (AP) and levels?

You earn Activity Points (AP) through point-earning activities: checking in at a gohane, the Problem of the Day, registering for tournaments, winning games, posting in Matchmaking and so on. As your AP grows you climb through 8 Dojo levels and take your place on the leaderboard. Streak: do at least one point-earning thing every day and your streak grows; from 3 days your points are multiplied by 1.5, from 7 days by 2. Just opening the app does not extend the streak.

How do I start learning Go?

Tap Learn Go on the Play card on the home screen (it is also at the top of the Go Dojo menu in the header). An interactive lesson opens full screen: read the rules step by step, or learn by placing stones on the board. Your progress is kept, so you can pick up where you left off; without internet, the copy saved in the app opens. Links in the lesson open in your phone's browser. The lesson is in Turkish for now.

How do I solve the Problem of the Day (tsumego)?

Tap Problem of the Day on the Play card on the home screen (the Go Dojo icon in the header opens the same tools), or tap the card posted every morning in the general room for all players. A new problem is published every day at each of the Easy, Intermediate and Hard levels; on some days a Very easy one is added. To play your move, tap an empty intersection on the board. Every level you solve earns points and keeps your streak going; once you solve one, a button such as “Next: Intermediate” takes you to the next level. The Play card also shows today's remaining rewards and your progress towards the next badge (for example 6/10).

What is a free game record (kifu)?

The kifu screen lets you record moves on a Go board offline. You can export the games you record as SGF, archive them and replay them later.

Sharing kifu and attaching a kifu to a match

Record your game in the Kifu screen and send it to a member from the share menu. If it was an official match, attach the record to that match from the Matches tab so both players can review it later.

How do I use the Go clock?

With the Go Clock (on the Play card on the home screen, or in the Go Dojo menu) you can keep time in your over-the-board games. You can choose time control modes such as Fischer and byo-yomi.

Section 5

Chat, payments and your account

How do I manage chat notifications?

In a room, open the menu (⋮) to mute the room for 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 week or forever. Settings › Notification Settings has Notify me only when mentioned and Mute all chat switches. Mentions always notify you.

Blocking and unblocking someone

Long-press a chat message and choose Block user. Their messages and notifications will not reach you. To unblock, go to Settings › Blocked users.

How do I upload a dues or EGD licence receipt?

In Profile › Membership Status and EGD Licence cards, tap Upload receipt under an unpaid year. You are notified when the treasurer approves it; if rejected you see the reason.

How do I change my password?

To change your password: Settings › Privacy and Security › Change Password. If you forgot it, tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen; a password reset link is sent to your email address.

How do I download my data or delete my account (KVKK)?

Under Settings › Privacy and Security, Download my data gives you profile, registrations, messages, matches and the list of files in one export. Account deletion becomes final after 7 days; you can cancel within that period.

Section 6

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an account?

On the sign-in screen, tap Create an account and enter your first and last name, email, a password, gender and date of birth. Your account opens right away. Then verify it once on the screen that follows: by SMS code if you have a Turkish (+90) number, otherwise with the approval of a referee or the TGOD team.

I can't get into the chat; it asks me to verify my account.

Chat and the other member features open once your account is verified. Tap the banner on the home screen or the row on your Profile page: verify your phone if you have a Turkish number, otherwise choose I don't have a Turkish number. You don't need to be an association member.

I don't have a Turkish number. What should I do?

On the verification screen, choose I don't have a Turkish number. At a tournament, show the QR code on the screen to the referee; once it's scanned, your account opens right away. Not at a tournament? Confirm your email, choose your country and reason and tap Send for approval; you get a notification when it's approved. You can look around while you wait.

The SMS code doesn't arrive.

Wait 60 seconds, tap Resend code and check that your number is right. The message may not show “TGOD” as the sender. Still nothing? Under No code?, show your QR code to the referee if you're at a tournament, or tap Ask the TGOD team for help. Codes are only sent to Turkish (+90) numbers.

My account has been paused.

It was paused because it wasn't verified within 7 days of opening; nothing was deleted. Open the app and complete one of the two ways on the verification screen; your account reopens right away.

I typed my email wrong.

In the banner on the home screen, tap Wrong address? Fix it and enter the right address. Your address changes when you tap the link sent to the new address; until then you sign in with the old one. Don't open a new account, so the details in your existing account aren't lost.

What can I do as a guest?

With Look around without an account you can see the news, the calendar, tournament details (schedule, rules, number of participants, pairings and results) and the rankings. Registering for a tournament, following it, chat and reporting results need a free account that you verify once; participants' names and the tournament standings also appear after verification. The Create an account to register button on the tournament page, or Create an account in the window on a locked feature, takes you straight to the sign-up screen.

I've just installed the app and the screens look different from this guide.

A freshly installed app may still open with the previous version the first time; the update downloads in the background. With internet on, close the app completely (swipe it away from recent apps) and open it again. Do the same if you only see an “Account Pending Approval” screen with a single Log Out button: after reopening you can look around and show your QR code to the referee. Your account is kept.

My approval request was not approved.

The app shows a “Your request was not approved” screen. If you think it's a mistake, write to baskan@tgod.org.tr; your account is not deleted and can be looked at again.

I registered for a tournament but it says “pre-registration”.

For tournaments with an entry fee, registration becomes final when the payment is approved. Have you uploaded your receipt? You are notified when the operator approves it. Registrations that are not final are not paired.

I got a pairing notification. Where is my table?

Open the Matches tab on the tournament page and pick the round to see your table and opponent. Tapping the notification takes you there too.

I don't want notifications from a room, but I want to stay in it.

In the room, open the ⋮ menu › Notifications for this room and choose how long. You are still notified when someone mentions you; if you don't want that either, turn off the “Chat” category in Notification Settings.

I blocked someone by mistake.

Remove the block under Settings › Blocked users; their messages appear again.

I paid my dues but my profile says “unpaid”.

If you uploaded your receipt, it may be waiting for the treasurer's approval (the card says it is under review). If you haven't, add it with Upload receipt under the unpaid year.

I couldn't solve the Problem of the Day and I'm out of tries.

After three tries, tap Show solution: the correct variation is played move by move, with move numbers on the stones. You can also try it yourself with Rewind (Review). Points are given only for the levels you solve; new problems come tomorrow. You can also solve past days from the archive.

The app says a screen “could not load”.

It's usually a connection problem; tap Try again or pull the page down. If it says “You don't have permission for this.”, your account isn't allowed in that area.

The text is small or the screen is hard to read.

Under Settings › Appearance, make the text larger with Text size and turn on High contrast to show text and lines in the darkest tone; your theme is kept and returns when you switch it off. Go board sets the look of the board in the Problem of the Day, Kifu and replays: Match the theme, Classic wood or Plain (most legible).

I want to delete my account.

Make the request under Settings › Privacy and Security › Delete My Account. The request becomes final after 7 days; you can sign in and cancel it within that period. You can take a copy of your data first with “Download My Data”.

I found a bug. Who do I write to?

Use the contact link under Settings › App Information or the association's email address. A screenshot and the step you were at help a lot.

Section 7 · Administrators

For administrators and referees

How do I pair a tournament?

In Tournament Management › Pairing, link the tournament to the pairing engine (Pairgoth), sync the players and tap “Pair round” for each round — all from your phone. The cockpit on the Tournament Day tab shows the next step: attendance check, pairing, results and finally the EGD file. Tables appear in the app and players are notified; you are warned about rematches. The Pairgoth panel in the web panel can do the same.

Assigning referees and the round schedule

Under Tournament Management › Tools › Officials and round schedule, add referees, enter round times and turn reminders on. Referees see their tournaments on their phones; participants are notified before each round.

What is kiosk mode (the result entry screen)?

By putting a tablet into kiosk mode at the venue, you let players enter their own game results. To start it: Tournament Management › Tools › Kiosk mode. A player scans the Participation QR Code from the tournament page and picks the result. When you open the kiosk (or the hall board) you set a 4-digit exit PIN, entered twice. To leave, hold the lock icon in the corner (top right in the kiosk, bottom right on the board) for 2 seconds and enter the PIN; after 5 wrong attempts there is a 30-second wait. Switching between the kiosk and the hall board doesn't ask for the PIN. If you forget the PIN, close the app completely (Android: recent apps screen; iPhone: swipe up from the bottom and flick the app away); when you reopen it, the kiosk is off. Still, don't leave the tablet unattended while it is signed in to your account.

How do I use Scan QR?

Use the Scan QR shortcut under Management › Today, or the Scan QR button on your Profile. At the registration desk, scan the player's Participation QR Code from the tournament page to check them in. Scanning the member code on a player's profile shows identity and membership details; if the person isn't verified yet, a Verified in person button appears: tap it only when the person is in front of you. It's logged and their account opens right away.

How do I create an EGD-rated tournament?

When setting up the tournament, turn on EGD-Rated Tournament: the tournament is included in EGD rating and a badge on the event page shows this. The licence requirement is a separate option: for tournaments that require an EGD licence, also turn on EGD licence required; the registration form then shows the licence fee and a notice. Dues status does not block registration.

Syncing with OpenGotha (backup route)

Pairing is best done in the app's Pairing tab (see “How do I pair a tournament?”). If you use OpenGotha at the venue, as a backup route go to Tournament Management › Tools › Summary · XML · OpenGotha, export the checked-in players as XML, pair them in OpenGotha and upload the XML back; the player list, round pairings and standings are updated.

Uploading pairings and results as a PDF

If you prefer posting a printed list instead of syncing OpenGotha XML, enable “Upload PDF Manually” on the Games tab of Tournament Management and upload the document.

How do I approve membership applications?

Management › Membership Requests has two kinds of requests: association membership applications and account approval requests from people without a Turkish number. Check the details of a membership application and approve it. For account approval requests, see “How do I review an approval request?”.

How do I review an approval request?

Management › Membership Requests lists approval requests from people without a Turkish number. On the card check: is the email confirmed; do the country and reason fit together (is the chosen tournament really on); does the EGD claim match; is there another account with the same name or date of birth. If everything fits, approve. If the person has a Turkish number, tap Switch to SMS; they verify by SMS themselves. If in doubt, don't reject: ask for an in-person check at the venue (the referee scans their code). A rejected person's account is locked and they can't use the app, so reject only in clear cases of abuse.

Receipt queue (treasurer)

Receipts awaiting approval are listed at the top of Management › Dues & Licence Tracking. Open the receipt, approve it or reject it with a reason. Every decision first goes through a confirmation that names the person and the action, then can be undone with “Undo” for 15 seconds. On approval the server records the year and notifies the member. The treasurer, board members and the super administrator are notified of new receipts. Receipt files are deleted 6 months after the decision; the record itself (year, decision, date) stays.

How do I publish news?

Add a news item from Management › Content › “Publish News”. When you publish it with an image, title and category, members can be notified.

Tsumego publishing queue

Management › Content › Tsumego Publishing Queue: see how many days of stock remain, tap an empty day and paste the SGF for the Easy, Intermediate and Hard levels (Very easy is optional). A badge appears when stock drops below 14 days; Very easy stock is shown separately.

Chat moderation

Long-press a message to Hide/Delete/Pin; use Management › Chat Moderation for mutes and bans. Every action is written to the server audit log and the member receives a notification with the reason; the reporter is informed of the outcome too.
